The short answer
Odoo officially supports its three most recent major versions — v18, v19 and v20 now that v20 is current. Since 2026, Enterprise contracts on older versions (v17 and earlier) carry a 25% legacy surcharge. For almost everyone, the right upgrade target is the current release, v20.
Legend
Current releaseInside the support windowCarrying the legacy upliftWell past the windowOldest paths we take onRelease years are approximate; Odoo follows a roughly annual cycle. "Supported" reflects Odoo's policy of officially covering only its three most recent major versions — this table shifts forward every year a new version ships, so treat "current" as relative to today, not fixed.
Target version
Which version should you target?
Almost always: the current release.
Odoo's managed upgrade path and most migration tooling handle a large version jump in a single pass, so there's rarely a cost advantage to landing on an older "safer-feeling" version first — you'd just be scheduling a second upgrade project sooner than necessary. The exception is a genuinely unusual compatibility requirement with a specific third-party integration, which is worth flagging during discovery rather than assuming upfront.
